We've finally collected our long-awaited keys!

Went down to One Leicester with Mr. Lew and Mum-in-law at 1700 last evening. Dad-in-law & Sis-in-law came abit later. Did not manage to discover much defects. Will be going down with Ronald and Nur again to get their help to discover 'hidden' defects as well as to submit some documents later at 1500.

Alright! Loads of photos. In fact they're the exact same layout as my first post's. (Same stack same size, thats why.) But still, different feeling. Might seem boring to others but eye candy to us!

Anyway, enjoy.

Key collection at 5pm tmr!!!!!!!!!!

Horrifying news!
Now the only source to pump petrol at half of SG's price is gone. Well, good & bad move i guess.

By decreasing the amount of petrol being sold (and used up) by the foreigners, they'll be decreasing the need to purchase so much petrol. But in a way, they'll also be decreasing the country's GDP.

So what do you think? Good or bad move?
.
.
Read from OL's forum:
1. Residents who collected their keys were complaining about how small their units were.

2. The sound of falling water from the waterfall feature was kinda annoying, one resident even thought it was raining.
(hahahaha. Dont know why but I found this statement darn hilarious when I read it.)

3. Two families have already shifted in and one of them was holding the hsewarming party at the multi-purpose function room few days back!
(Same thoughts as the others. Zero need for fixing of defects or renovation???)

4. The multi-purpose function room is awfully small.

5. The portable BBQ pits are chargable when we intend to have a BBQ.
(What?! We're paying close to $300 per month for the maintenance fee and we have to pay for the rental of the BBQ pit?!)

6. Residents from Stack 5 to 11 have to walk one big round to get to the swimming pool & gym room.
(Oh no.. we're one of them..)

7. The swinging shower screens in the bathrooms feel like they're gonna drop off anytime soon.

8. Saw comments that the workmanship for the tiling is really bad.

9. And many other defects not discovered yet ?

Gees.. For the price paid & the monthly maintenance fees..
Sigh. The irony of living in a condominium.

Fed up.

Received news that FCL hasn't received Mr. Lew's CO and thus the date to collect the keys can't be booked yet. Supposed to collect the keys this Wednesday and now we don't even know if we're able to get a Wednesday slot if FCL receives the CO only tomorrow.

And I'm so irritated bcos I no longer have any free time starting Thursday on.
ARGH!

A pleasant surprise from Mr Lew.
(Read: 24th May 2008's entry)

How sweet of him!
Saw this post only now when I was scrolling down the blog page after my latest entry. Turned around and looked at my husband & there he was, holding The Sunday Times and grinning back at me like a cheshire cat.

At a loss for words.

A day at Singapore Expo. Filled our tummies at the food exhibition & checked out the Robinsons Sale. Bought 2 sets of bedsheets, one with the comforter & one without.

arty farty.

Will be purchasing the lightings (and maybe the dining set as well) next weekend with the in-laws. Read from OL's forum that the defects of the units take around 3 - 4 weeks to be rectified. What horrendous news! Will double-check when we get the keys on Wednesday. Another 3 days more. (How exciting!)
=D

I want to lament on this:
I really dislike Raoul shirts. Nothing against the brand itself but their shirts are so difficult to iron! Going to ban Mr. Lew from buying anymore shirts from Raoul unless he's going to iron them himself. Grrr!

Sucha drag to have lectures on Saturdays. Financial Management somemore. Sigh! But oh well. Its not a bad thing considering this module equates to M6 and I'll most probably be exempted from it in the future.

Thanks to Mr. Lew for kick-starting me.
(Even though it gets rather annoying when he asks me whats the latest DOW JONES and STI every now and then.)

I presume I'm gonna be scoring an A for my FM module cos The Lews are gonna be discussing alot about stocks & shares etc etc etc from now on. And my readings are going to be switched from murder novels to online financial news.

Got to change the DOD of our bed & bed frame as well as fridge & washing machine + dryer right after the fengshui master analyzes the house. DOD was inititally fixed on the 7th of June. But the renovation works will be ongoing at that point of time. So.

Urgh.
Just thinking about the renovation's tight schedule makes me wanna barf.

Mum-in-law suggested going into JB for the curtains and Mr. Lew also heard from his colleague that curtains from JB would only cost us half the price if we were to do it in Singapore. Major savings if we're gonna do it in JB cos curtains are so darn costly also!

I wonder why the redundant things in life costs so much more than the necessities. Bcos of the word; luxuries? Hmmm. Still, might be going into JB tmr evening with Mr Lew.

Checking out caterers online. Shortlisted a few.

YEAH!!!!!!!!

Key collection: 28 May 2008, Wednesday (Time unknown)

Fengshui appt: 31 May 2008, Saturday (1400 hrs)
.
.
.
Just one of the usual weekends spent at his grandma's and my grandma-in-law's.

This post. Bcos Mr. Lew likes his baby cousin, Ernie Lew so much.
But Grandma-in-law & me thinks that Ernie likes me. More.

Mr. Lew always tells me that our kids are/has to be as adorable as her.

Hmmmm..

Okay.
.
.
.

Called up the fengshui master this morning. Was told that we're not required to pick a gd date for opening the door the 1st time, just an auspicious date & exact time for the start of our renovation works. Great news cos its a reduction of our waiting time.

Waiting for the lawyer's call for the additional payments and next big thing:
KEY COLLECTION! Woooo hooooo!

So far, we've bought everything there is to buy from the minor to major appliances:

3-seater sofa (IKEA)
4-drawered shoe cabinet (IKEA)
Coffee table (IKEA)
Plastic dispenser (IKEA)
Clothes Organizer (IKEA)
Decorative bowl (IKEA)
Cutlery (IKEA)
Cushions (IKEA)
Plates & bowls (IKEA. Spcl thanks to Mum!)
Bed frame & mattress (Silver River Furniture)
37" Sony Bravia 'S' series TV (Harvey Norman. Spcl thanks to Anning!)
LG Fridge (Megastore)
LG 2-in-1 washer + dryer (Megastore)
LG Home Theatre system (Audio House)

Finally the Lews are able to take a breather during the weekends since now we're only left with:

- planter (big problem)
- dining table and chairs
- lightings
- curtains
- rugs
- pots and pans
- bed sheets and comforters
- other minor miscellaneous items which will go into the housewarming gift list (that we've yet to plan)
- renovation works.

Have to scout for a suitable caterer as well. Will just be catering 5 to 6 dishes (including dessert) for around 40 pax cos Mum's frying bee hoon and cooking her curry chicken & my gd friend + classmate, William (boss of Molly's) will be bringing over his nonya delicacies.

Any recommendations?

The Lews new toy. Came at just the right time.

A fruitful weekend for the Lews.

Headed down to Audio House yesterday (Address: 118 Sims Drive or Liang Court) to check out their products. So happened that the LG home theatre system that me & Mr. Lew loves so much was on sale cos it was the last set already! But we did not purchase it right on the spot cos we wanted to check out if Megastore (Address: United Square, Novena) had a better deal for us. So risking the chance of the last set being purchased by some other consumers, we hurried down to Megastore and realised that the sales person had given me the quotation for the wrong product.

Was kinda frustrated with the sales person's error and showed my annoyance. Lucky for us, the sales guy was rather intimidated by me and gave us a damn good price for the washer cum dryer & fridge.

The next thing we knew: a happy Mr. Lew putting down the deposit for both.
=D

Cheers to my fierce-ness and the word intimidation!

Model: LG WD-14331 AD
Our 2-in-1 washer cum dryer. Love it!

Model: LG GR-M392YLQ
Our fridge. Love the great design & awesome price!

After paying the deposit for the stuffs bought at Megastore, we rushed down to Audio House to get our HT system. Lucky for us it was not bought before we reached. It was a cash-and-carry affair so we had to load it in the boot and lug it all the way up to my house and room. Darn heavy! But it was really too great a deal to miss! However they kinda cocked up cos they forgot to pack all the cables into the box, so we had to go down all the way today to collect the 2 missing cables. One of the cables given was of a better quality though.

Mr. Lew reading the manual like a bible. Testing the speakers & sound quality.

Oopppss!
Just realised I made a mistake in the approx. calculation of our housewarming date!

FCL sent out the letter to Mr. Lew's lawyer on the 14th. Apparently Mr. Lew's lawyer has not received it since he hasnt got any call from them. Calculated that the housewarming party to be somewhere around the 1st week of June, but just realised there are so many factors that i forgot to input in! Eeeppps!

Even if we manage to get the keys next week or the week after next, i forgot to input the factors below!

No. 1:
Consulting the fengshui master to get an auspicious day to open the door for the 1st time.
(Maybe 4 - 5 days?)

No. 2:
Check on the defects and wait for the developer to fix all the defects till they're acceptable.
(God knows how long they'll take since nearly every single unit has defects. Pray that the fixing of defects is not on a first-come-first-serve basis.)

No.3:
Renovation works
(Probably 7 - 9 days since we'll only be doing minimal reno. works)

No.4:
Move in all the furniture
(1 - 2 days)

No.5:
Settle down in the new environment for awhile
(Another 5-7 days.)

And only after all these have been completed............
the housewarming party!

Judging from these factors, it's totally implausible for it to be on the 1st week of June. Oh well. As long as the move-in isnt during the chinese 7th month.

Customized chengai timber flooring for the planter is so costly!
Mr. Lew received a flyer from this supplier that has a tie-up with OL's developer for chengai flooring, and I just called to check on the price for the size of our planter. Guess what?

It costs $1K for a few pieces of redundant wood! Geez! We're definitely off the idea of getting someone to customize the planter area for us since its not even going to be used at all. Will be sticking back to the old idea of buying the chengai wood OTR from Far East Flora.

An eg. of a customized balcony/planter taken from http://www.hendoncreation.com
It looks really really nice. But still. It's a redundant expense.

Anyway if anyone is interested in customizing your planter & would like to use the one whom flyer we received, the address and contact person is:

Bought by Mr. Lew:
A 5-litre Heineken keg for our housewarming party that's coming up real soon!

Retailing at Carrefour for only $50.
Pours up to 20 glasses and can be kept for 30days after opening. They're giving away an inflatable ice bucket as well!
While stocks lasts.

Did I mention that we've changed the flawed kopi table for a new and flawless one?
Btw, Ikea's having a kitchen sale!
Bought 2 boxes of the 16-piece cutlery set for just $5.90 per box! And a decorative bowl, to place either candles or scented dried flowers, for our dining table for $5.90 only!
Tell me how low can prices go at Ikea?

Cheap & pretty things make the Lews happy people.
=D

We purchased our queen-sized bed & bedhead yesterday at Silver River Furniture at a really good price! For a wide range of furniture, you can check them out at:
...
Address: No.5 Little Road, Cemtex Industrial Bldg
Website: www.silverriver.com.sg

Mr. Lew loves this piece for its color and retro-ish look.

Went down to Far East Flora yesterday (Address: 565 Thomson Road, within Goodwood Florist) to enquire about chengai wood for our planter. From what the plants specialist told us, reckon the planter area is gonna be a huge problem. Be it tiles, chengai wood, iron wood or granite slabs.. everything would cause water to be trapped at the bottom, resulting in the possible breeding of mozzies! Nevertheless, we've decided to get chengai wood and pebbles to fill up the planter, and the Lews are to put in effort to lift up the chengai wood regularly to make sure the bottom is void of water puddles and of course, mozzies.

Note:
If you're choosing between chengai wood, ironwood or bala wood. Be sure not to pick bala wood bcos termites love them!

I'm not a flower person but i think hydrangeas are beautiful. Told Mr. Lew i want my hand bouquet to be a mix of hydrangeas and roses! (Something to take note of : Guys, be aware that a bouquet of just hydrangeas are for the platonic friend only.)

Went down to Mega Store yesterday as well supposedly to place a deposit for the LG home theatre system. The sales person was so annoying. We specifically asked for the LG model that we wanted but he kept digressing to Philips HT systems. Purely annoyed by his cant-be-bothered-about-the-customer-wants. We left in awhile after getting tired of his nonsense and decided to give the sales to the Novena sales person instead. Guess what? I just called the Novena branch to reserve the LG system and it's sold out! So disappointing. Told Mr. Lew about this and we've decided on either getting it from Mustafa or choosing another model.

Managed to get an awfully good quote from Steven of Palace of Lights last weekend (Address: 320 Balestier Rd, #01-01/02) for the 5" and 6" downlights that we're getting for our ceiling works. Will be getting approx. 19 - 22 downlights for the whole house! Thats excluding the normal ceiling lights for the yard, household shelter and planter & the hanging lights for the dining area, bedroom 2 and foyer! Though Steven gave us a good price per downlight.. but still lightings and electrical works are so expensive!

a picture of the downlight we chose (5")

Decided on this home theatre system from LG a long time ago. but ours is gonna be a little different with 2 tall + 2 satellite speakers instead of the 4 that you see in the photo above. We simply love the black and sleek design of the tall speakers. LG calls them the champagne flute speakers. On top of that, Megastore (Location: Katong Mall) offered us an awfully good price!
...
Something to take note of:
Had a chat with Ronald the interior designer about the TV console. Wondered if it would be a good idea to have it on the floor instead of everyone else's which are suspended. Ron mentioned that we might spoil the internal wood when the floor's being mopped due to water. Don't really have a choice though since the speakers are to be on the TV console. Well, I guess we have to be rly careful abt the mopping to avoid ruining the console's wood.
They're here!

Saw a teeny weeny chip on the surface of our kopi-table. Reckon they should have packed it in a box just like the shoe cabinet instead of just wrapping it around with plastic.

shoe cabinet & coffee table

our sofa. it's not that huge as we initially thought it would be, so i guess Mr. Lew and Timo wont experience much problems lugging everything over to OL.

Awaiting patiently for the keys of One Leicester to arrive.
...
Managed to obtain some information on Monday from FCL, gonna be the 2nd batch to collect them. Yeah! Definitely worth popping a bottle of champagne about.
...
We've been waiting ages for the keys though it was only supposed to be released during September 2008. But yunno.. expectations multiply by the dozens (or even by the thousands!) even though we've already been blessed with the early TOP status. It's just human.
...
Will be expecting the delivery of our sofa, shoe cabinet & dining table noon time this coming Saturday to my place since OL's keys are not in our hands yet. Will have to direct the deliverymen myself since Mr. Lew has to work. Oh well.
...
Some photos of OL to share (they arent of our unit though cos I got them from a really kind fellow resident who stays on the same stack, but it shows a more or less similar layout) :
